Resolve to have better days.

11 January 2010 5 Comments

If you could design your perfect day what would it look like? Not a perfect day that can only happen once, like winning the lottery or getting a promotion… But the day you could live over and over again and be completely content? What actions would belong to a day like that? Eating a real breakfast? Walking the dog, listening to jazz, or reading in your favorite chair? Most of us will make resolutions or goals for this coming year that will aim at changing major parts of our life for good. Some of us will succeed and some of us will fail. Some of us will be thwarted by issues out of our control. But what if we didn’t worry about the big stuff. What if we resolved to make our lives better by changing little things. What if we just took the time to enjoy one thing every day that blesses us? What if we enjoyed ourselves every day by design? Don’t you think being happier would make us better at everything we do? Even the things we’d rather forget about? Things I’m contemplating for this year…

1. End every day with a cup of tea and a book.

2. Start every morning with music instead of an alarm.

3. Eat breakfast.

4. Eat lunch.

5. Write one page, even if its nonsense actually especially if its nonsense.

6. Talk to my children.

I think happiness has to do more with resolve than what life gives you.

I love how you jumble the simplicity and complexity of your thoughts all together to write beautifully. You are a gifted thinker that has bee blessed with the ability to eloquently express those thoughts. I enjoy and appreciate your blog.

I think you’ve just summed up the entire self-help industry in a blog post, and that’s not a bad thing. We’re doing our own new year analysis about day-to-day life. I look forward to simplifying things.

I belong to an email group for Francophiles. A few years ago many of us wrote a detailed description of how we envision a perfect *ordinary* day in our life. I printed a copy of mine and keep it in my planner to re-read periodically. I need to pull it out again…

Btw, while I’m sure you have no interest in putting one of those cute bloggy awards on your page, I’ve given you the Happy 101 award anyway. Perhaps you will get a few new readers as a result. You may check it out here:
